Getting Started with Generative AI: ChatGPT and Claude 101

In the May 15 Women in Ag Tech webinar, Dr. Susan Olsen, Founder of Action Intel, took time to introduce the foundational tools that are making generative AI more accessible for everyday professional use.

She highlighted ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, as one of the most common entry points for exploring AI. “It’s a web-based tool you can access online,” she explained. “You just create a free account and you’re ready to start asking questions in a simple chat window.”

Whether you’re researching a new topic, summarizing documents, or generating ideas, ChatGPT offers an intuitive interface that allows users to guide and refine responses in real time. Dr. Olsen demonstrated how even basic questions—like asking about the capital of a country—can illustrate the tool’s ability to deliver quick, conversational results.

She also introduced Claude.ai, an AI tool developed by Anthropic. While both tools perform similar tasks, each is built on different models and strengths. “Some people prefer ChatGPT, others find Claude more useful for certain tasks,” she said. “It often just comes down to personal preference.”

This clip from the webinar serves as a practical starting point for women in ag tech who are looking to explore how generative AI can support research, writing, brainstorming, and more. As Dr. Olsen reminded attendees, learning these tools is less about technical expertise and more about curiosity and experimentation.
